Lancaster Yarn Shop offers a variety of classes and workshops for fiber artists of all skill levels, from Absolute Beginner to Extremely Accomplished.  The emphasis is on celebrating the tradition of knitting and handwork (and learning cool new stuff!) in a fun and friendly atmosphere.

Classes are held at the Yarn Shop in our beautiful upstairs studio at 3519 Old Philadelphia Pike in Intercourse, Lancaster County, PA. (HERE for directions).  There is plenty of free parking, and we are just steps from the terrific restaurants and great shopping at Kitchen Kettle Village. Classes are taught by our experienced and knowledgeable instructors and classified by skill level.

Absolute Beginner
Absolute Beginners are Future Knitters who have not yet put ‘yarn’ to ‘needle.’ have neither ‘knit’ nor ‘purled,’ and don’t know the difference between ‘casting on’ and ‘casting off.’   Also, perhaps, Former Knitters who may have forgotten it all (you know who you are!).  We’ll help you choose your materials and tools, and teach you to cast on, knit, purl, and cast off.

Intermediate
Intermediate Knitters are Current Knitters who know the basics:  long-tail cast-on, knit, purl, and bind off.  Develop your skills and learn shaping, new patterns, and cool techniques that will move your knitting forward!  These are project oriented classes, let's make something beautiful!

Entrelac Scarf:  Entrelac is a knitting technique used to create a textured diamond pattern.  Master the technique & make a beautiful scarf.

Toe-Up Socks:  A new perspective in socks!

Color Work-Fair Isle:  Learn the fundamentals of color work in the Fair Isle style with this excellent introduction to the technique.

Clapotis: The Clapotis is a drop stitch scarf which has been a knitting sensation since it was first published on knitty.com in 2004. The Clapotis is knit on the bias with a variegated yarn.

First Time Baby Socks:  Learn to knit your first pair of socks by starting small!

Magic Loop Socks:  Learn how to knit a pair of socks on a single, long circular needle!

Vintage Baby Sweater:  The Vintage Baby Cardigan is an adorable, asymmetrical sweater. Simple shaping and a silk ribbon or vintage button closure create a sweet, classic look.

Hey Teach:  'Hey, Teach' is a cotton sweater with a 'baby-doll' fit.  This lace yoked short sleeved cardigan is a Spring-y sweater that can span the seasons.

Finishing Workshop:  An excellent opportunity to learn the fundamentals of hand finishing, & how to identify & repair mistakes in your knitting.

 

Extremely Accomplished
Who is an Extreme Knitter?  Does entrelac make you swoon?  Love cablesColorwork?  Is Barbara Walker your favorite author?  Let's do some extreme knitting!  You know you want to!

LYS Class Policy Statement
Payment required at time of registration. Class fees are for instruction and do not include cost of yarn, patterns, or needles, unless specified in class description. Class fees are non-refundable unless LYS cancels the class. If class minimums are not met, LYS may cancel or reschedule classes. Unless arrangements are made with instructor, there is no refund or make-up class for missed classes. Please have your supplies and yarns at the start of your first class session. Material lists will be provided and will be available at LYS.
